Results of cuttings and transplants

As we saw in a previous article on cuttings, Eduardo showed us how to “rejuvenate” and develop various plant species by preparing a good compost and making a good cutting, in great detail. However, we did not know the results, until now. If you are curious to know how the “experiments” went, we will show you in this article. Enjoy it!

MONITORING OF THE CUTTING AND TRANSPLANTING PROCESS

In case you are missing something, here is the article where they talked about these cuttings.

MAKE CUTTINGS EASILY

I’ll start with the oldest. It is about “The cuttings” in which the simplest and easiest example to make was that of the Saintpaulia ionantha of the Gesneriaceae family , not to be confused with the Geraniaceae of the Pelargonium . It is from the tropical east of Africa, Kenya and Tanzania, but mountainous, so it is not extremely demanding in heat like others in the area itself.

As you can see, the first one is already emerging, and the previous batch, out of focus, are already pulling. In two to three months I will be able to carry out the suitable transplants and another new batch.

But Eduardo, what are you doing with so many plants? Well, give them away, well, not all. I always keep a copy of shelter because I also kill plants. The saying goes: in the blacksmith’s house, a wooden knife. It is true that I do a lot of experimentation, situations, change of irrigation, have them for 6 months without irrigation, like the Phyllodendron seollum , which you will see later.

It is the only way I know of to advise people. First: in my time there was no internet. Second: secrets were jealously guarded. If one plant died you had to buy another and if you made a garden and 100 died you had to replace them. Third: do not trust the internet much, not everything is true, and fourth: what I say you put in quarantine, well that it helps you start the road but I have already walked it and now it is your turn.

FEBRUARY TRANSPLANT RESULTS

The Ginkgo biloba has sprouted on all its trunks and twigs. Can you make a forest with it? Surely, but remember that it had an immense root and I will have to cut it, this means several transplants and getting rooted at the top. I’ll try.

The Spathiphyllum or Spatiphylium , which both meanings are used, has flowered almost immediately and, although it may not seem like it, it is a problem since the flower needs plenty of water and the roots have not yet invaded the area of new land, thus demanding water continuously. Do you remember root rot? It is preferable to lose this first flower to lose the entire plant.

You can see something sad, lacking in water. The problem arises from having had it too long in the same pot. Remember that in irrigation, professionals used automatic systems for irrigation, fertilization and maintenance of temperature and humidity. The pot was frankly small but if it had been transplanted in a nursery, its price would triple. Surely for summer, and with another transplant in between, I will get a beautiful specimen.

The fallen leaf follows but already with three flowers. By the way, the 1st measures 33 cm from tip to tail, only the white flower. In a couple of months to final pot.

The Phyllodendron seollum or bipinnatifidium , literally that has indentations on the sides of the leaves, my wife gave it to me when I had surgery for appendicitis, that name has it, the appendicitis plant, 32 years ago. It has undergone countless transplants to a pot and then to the ground and again to a pot.

As it was old I have rejuvenated it and transplanted it into a pot, two came out, which when they are well rooted I will plant them again in the ground.

You see that they sprout strongly, and the Sun gives them, a short time at the moment, but then I will have it about 4 hours in the sun. The leaves become huge. We will see.

This plant is medicinal and is used as an insecticide. It is also edible, it is a cousin of the Monstera deliciosa , Monstera because of the size of the leaves and delicious because of the pleasant taste of its fruit, it is a flavor between pineapple and banana, or perhaps a mixture of the two, but be careful, it has some hairs that annoy quantity. We will talk about her.

Finally the Adenium obesum , which seemed a kind of whim or nonsense.

La Soleiroila has invaded and hidden the land. Old leaves from last year remain and they dry out, but for now the new ones sprout green without the brown rim typical of root disease.

FOLLOW THE INVASION. TO THE HAIRDRESSER …

Well neat, as it should be. When you varnish the wood it will be attractive.

It is a delicate plant when it comes to watering, like seven thirty, if you miss the plant, if you don’t arrive it will not flower. I like the challenge. At the moment I have only watered it with the diffuser and I deduce that, since it does not move shoots, it must lack some water , but the truth is that spring is late and it also influences.

If you can the plant, have a cloth and cold water to stop the sap.
