Caring for the Ribbon or Malamadre

From the common name that this houseplant is usually called, Cinta or Malamadre , we would think that it is anything less than what we are going to talk about today. No, we are not talking about Luis Tosar in cell 211, but about  Chlorophytum comosum. An excellent indoor plant to watch growing near your window. You dare?

AN INTRODUCTION TO THE TAPE OR MALAMADRE

We have to start by commenting that the Cinta can be grown both indoors and outdoors. What happens is usually done in pots and the most common is to have it in a patio or in a window, that is why we have classified it as an indoor plant . Do not worry, we will provide you with some information regarding the climate or soil in case you dare to have it in the garden.

RIBBON CULTIVATION FEATURES

THE LUMINOSITY THAT THE RIBBON NEEDS

The Tape needs good doses of light but without exposing it to direct sun . Being inside the house it is easy to move it or move it away from the window in the hours of greater solar radiation. However, it is a resistant plant and will not cause problems in this regard. If the tape has dry ends, it may be due to lack of humidity or excessive sun.

SOIL TYPE. WHAT SOIL TO CHOOSE FOR MY POT WITH THE MALAMADRE

When choosing the substrate that we will add to our container or pot, we will choose a peat that contains good moisture, or a mixture of peat and sand in equal mixtures. It is important to choose the pot well because the Cinta has a great capacity for growth and you will often have to divide the plant because it does not fit in the container. It is best to find a deep and wide pot.

IRRIGATION OF THE RIBBON

Although the temperature conditions of indoor plants are not modified as much as those that we can find in the garden, we have to water differently in summer and winter. In winter it is enough to water the Tape once every 5 days or every week . However, in summer you have to increase the frequency of irrigation to 2 or 3 times a week . We can realize that the watering is insufficient if we see the tips dry or pale.

IRRIGATION, SUBSTRATE … AND THE SUBSCRIBER?

It is usually taken into account in the growth period of the Ribbon, which corresponds to the spring and summer months. Every 15 days a liquid type fertilizer or an organic fertilizer of which we discussed a while ago is added.

Finally , if we had to provide a summary of the cultivation of the Cinta we would say that it is ideal for those who start with plants, due to its great resistance and adaptation to different environments.
