How to prepare a natural sunscreen

It is very important to protect the skin from the effects of the sun, so I teach you how to make an ecological cream that serves as  a natural, homemade sunscreen without toxic additives . But first, you need to know all the relevant information about natural sunscreens.

It is important to note that this initiative is in favor of the preservation of the environment. Making natural and homemade sunscreen is less harmful when it is done without toxins that influence the environment, it is also a very practical and economical technique to perform.

Likewise, making this product must also guarantee the perfect care of the dermis because the sun’s rays are increasingly intense. Ecological and natural sun cream  seeks to reduce the impact that  commercial protectants have on the environment  since there are a large number that directly damage the planet.

You may see it almost impossible, but it is a reality that is proven by scientists. On the other hand, many of the protectors that are available in stores contain chemicals that are harmful to health. They can protect you from UVA rays   but they can also cause unfavorable reactions or some type of dermatitis.

There are thousands of reasons why you should start making a natural organic cream that is a sunscreen without toxic additives, because it is also very cheap and easy to make at home.

Before doing the step by step of how to make natural sunscreens, you need to take into account that the ingredients to use may vary according to the taste and need of each person. This is a personal recipe that is very effective for me, but at the end I will leave a list of products that also avoid the effects of the sun on the skin.

Ingredients :

  • 100 ml of avocado oil (can work with two tablespoons).
  • 30 drops of lavender essential oil ( SPF 5 ).
  • 50 ml of wheat germ oil with vitamin E (or a tablespoon).
  • 30 gr of beeswax.
  • 10 grams of zinc oxide powder at 12% concentration.
  • 30 gr of cacao meal.

Step by step process :

  1. Place the non-essential oils in a bain-marie with a simmer along with the butter and beeswax. This wax will allow the permeability of the mixture.
  2. Once melted and a homogeneous mixture is obtained, let it rest for a few seconds.
  3. Add the wheat germ oil and zinc oxide. It is important that you use the appropriate protection measures throughout the process, since inhaling the vapor or any particle can harm your health.
  4. Dissolve until completely mixed zinc oxide.
  5. Empty the mixture into a container for later use, it is recommended that it be a glass or resistant plastic container.
  6. Let it sit for a day so that the mixture hardens, is manageable and easy to apply.

The use of  these ingredients are optional and may vary  especially for butters, essential and non-essential oils.

This section includes only products that have protective properties and are great for skin care. They are vegetable lipids that contain fatty acids that are extracted from 100% pure and odorless oil seeds or fruits.

  • Coconut and olive oils (with a sun protection factor 7), as well as hemp, rosehip, etc.
  • Hazelnut oil ( SPF 10 ) or castor oil ( SPF 5 ).
  • Cottonseed, raspberry and peanut blocks UV rays at levels of 20%.
  • Sesame oil blocks at a level of 30%.
  • Essential oils such as: sage, myrrh, rosemary, etc.
  • The seeds of carrots, basil, mint, lavender, eucalyptus, tea tree, etc.

There are many more, but it  is always advisable to know the properties before using because each ingredient has a different protection factor or other advantages that can make it ideal to use. Last but not least, it is ideal that you know this basic mixing rule. For a liquid content of 100 ml of any vegetable oil it is recommended to add 20 to 60 drops of any essential oil.

As I have been talking about how to prepare organic cream that serves as a natural sunscreen, it is ideal to also know other personal care products without toxic elements. These are:

  1. Applying homemade aloe vera gel and vitamin E soothes and clears acne spots or sunburn.
  2. The organic cream based on aloe vera and mint is the best sunscreen that works as a refreshing filter. Since many times when applying these creams it generates discomfort and heat, this is very good and effective.
  3. Keep the  skin hydrated with any vegetable oil of 100% pure origin , cocoa butter, almonds, coconut and others.
  4. On days you plan to expose to a long time in the sun, it is necessary to consume foods rich in antioxidants. Raw fruits or vegetables can be a healthy way to protect the body without having to use sunscreen.
  5. Use cotton shirts, hats, umbrellas or anything that allows us to cover well and avoid direct contact with UV rays  .

I certainly consider these to be the best forms of natural sunscreen or sunscreen.

Without so many detours, I invite you to know the  toxic risks to health or the environment that have not using natural sunscreen  or organic creams.

  • Commercial sunscreens are widely used by thousands of people when going to the beach, so the marine environment is affected by the non-soluble chemicals that most of these products have.
  • Excessive use decreases the vitamin D found in the body, an effect that causes bone wear. There are those who say that it is a myth, but today there are already scientific studies that prove it.
  • Some of these chemicals can cause allergies or skin irritation, this happens with people with sensitive dermis.
  • Only 30% of these products comply with the safety standards established by international health entities. And  more than 50% can activate cancer cells in the dermis .
  • Spray filters are even more harmful, besides being flammable you can run the risk of inhaling.
